Easter

Our Easter weekend began with Grace coming home from school with a fever on Thursday. It quickly became apparent that she might have strep throat, so Darrel took her to the doctor the next morning. The rapid strep test was negative, but the doctor did start her on antibiotics, just in case, with instructions to stop them if we didn't hear from their office by Monday. I was pretty sure we'd get a call since this has happened with Grace before. The call came Saturday with the results--strep, indeed. Grace was happy to keep taking the yummy medicine and Darrel and I were just glad it was something treatable with medicine and not just a virus we had to wait out. Poor Gracie has been less than energetic all weekend (as you can probably tell in some of the photos), but is starting to feel better.

Saturday brought our big egg dyeing "eggs"travaganza. I don't think I could ever cook enough eggs to satisfy these kids! I thought 5 eggs each was plenty, but they were begging for more. Grace said she wished we could dye eggs every day, and I don't doubt they could. But there is a limit to how many hard-boiled eggs we can eat after Easter, so I have to ensure we don't go over that fine line. It's a delicate balance.

Darrel making a fancy pattern on his egg with a crayon before dyeing it.
Grace not only doubts the existence of Santa, as you read in an earlier post, but the Easter Bunny as well. She left him a note, but we pointed out that he probably wouldn't write back as he lacks an opposable thumb (Phew!). She suggested that he might type it, but there was no note this morning, so I guess he doesn't have access to a computer. But, real or not, he did leave delicious treats and was pretty good at hiding those Easter eggs.

Church was especially nice today and it was so refreshing to the soul to reflect on the Savior's life, atonement, death and resurrection. We invited our sweet neighbor, Billy, over for Easter dinner. It wasn't our week to eat with either of our families and we thought it would be nice to have her since she doesn't have family nearby. It was fun to hear about her trip to Egypt. She even thought to send us a postcard when she went, isn't that nice? What a beautiful day!

Lookin' sharp in some new Easter duds!

The kids feasted on a steady diet of candy throughout the day. Justin especially has a sweet tooth! I've never noticed a difference in my other kids' behavior if they eat a lot of sweets, but it sure seems to affect Justin. He was bouncing off the walls tonight and we weren't sure he'd be able to sleep. But they've all drifted off now, and it's time for Darrel and I to have a little alone time (and maybe a few Easter treats of our own). Happy Easter!
